Federatie TMV, the Dutch Federation of certified appraisers, brokers and auctioneers in movable assets was established in 1951. The federation stands for high quality professionals in the field of appraisal, auctions and brokerage. The members are certified in many fields of movable assets e.g. a wide range of art and antiques, jewelry, industrial equipment and vehicles, etc. In the Netherlands all leading auction houses and their managers are members of the Federation TMV.

Within the Federation four different sections, each with its own field of expertise, periodically set up workshops, study days and company visits for the in-service training and refresher courses of her members.

Certification
The Federation TMV is the only professional association of appraisers, brokers and auctioneers of movable assets in the Netherlands. The main task of the Federation is to guarantee the competence, professional knowledge and expertise of her members. For this aim, the Federation provides educational training and applies stringent admission requirements through a certification system.
The certification system is in line with international (ISO) standards. Potential members can only apply for a membership after successfully rounding of an exam in their field of expertise. Certificates are only valid for a confined period of 5 years, after which the appraiser, broker or auctioneer has to be able to verify he is still active in his field of expertise and is keeping his professional competence on the required level through continued professionalization and training. For the certification system procedures have been set up which guarantee independence and impartiality. In line with European regulations a ‘board of experts’ monitors the certification system.

Register
The Federation keeps two ‘membership registers’, thus enabling government and the public to easily trace certified appraisers, brokers and auctioneers. The membership registers contain more than 240 experts in 50 different fields of expertise.
